Microcosm
Old City Pier, Anna Maria Island, Florida
The pier was severely damaged in 2017 by Hurricane Irma and had to be completely destroyed. At the time these photographs were made, the pier stood for more than 100 years. It was a local icon known by Floridians from around the state as well as by tourists from destinations across the US and around the world. To me, life on the pier represents a microcosm of humanity shuffled together for a brief moment-in-time by their love for the water, and sometimes, even fishing.
